The Criminology Library is excited to share our new digital exhibit, ‘This Book is Free, the Contributors are Not:’ The Penal Press in Canada. This exhibition showcases, for the first time, our extensive collection of penal press publications, spanning seven provinces and four decades. Comprised entirely of material written and produced by prisoners, this exhibition aims to amplify the voices of prisoners, allowing them to tell their own stories, including conflicts with guards and administration, the experiences of women, Indigenous organizations, and censorship.
